The All Natural Dirt on Aveda

I’m a HUGE and loyal fan of Aveda. I’ve been using Aveda products for 25 years (holy crap)! Long before it was trendy to be eco-friendly and plant-based. So, you can imagine how interested I was in a recent entry about Aveda on The Beauty Brains blog (where real scientists answer beauty product questions). Here’s a taste of the dirt:

Brains bottom line:
Aveda produces good, high quality products, but they are no more natural or good for you than anything else you can buy. They have some environmental stances that are laudable which may help make you feel better about buying them. But these marketing shenanigans sure make me lose faith in them.

Well, my faith in Aveda can't be shaken by claiming 'marketing shenanigans'. Here’s why I adore their hair products, regardless of how “natural” the ingredients are:

• They have a fresh, organic scent; not some fakey perfume smell.
  
• There are great shampoo, conditioner and styling formulas to suit a wide variety of hair types and overcome challenges; color conserving, enhancing curly or straight, volumizing, ultra-moisturizing, smoothing and humidity fighting, and more!

• The hair sprays always wash out clean; I’ve never had any of them build-up on my hair and they don't make the strands rubbery or brittle.
  
• The products have always helped my hair remain healthy despite every kind of cruel treatment I’ve put it through over the years (Aveda even tamed my mom’s frizzy, dry, course hair and now it looks great!).
• The styling products can be mixed and matched to create just the right level of control for your hair and styling needs. They also completely wash out without build-up.

There are a few other specific Aveda products that I highly recommend to others:

• Blue Oil Balancing Concentrate It’s a muscle soothing, tension relieving oil that comes in a little roll-on bottle and is meant for use on pulse points, temples, areas of tension and sore muscles. I swear by it to help relieve tension and sinus headaches
• Hand and Foot Relief The hand lotion is wonderfully moisturizing (great to use when you need a hand massage) and the foot cream is fabulously cool and refreshing for tired or dry feet.

• Pure Abundance Hair Potion This is an awesome light powder that adds volume to the hair and provides the ability to style like “second day hair.” I can attest to the fact that it works great!

It is true that Aveda products aren’t cheap, but I get a unique, top-quality, effective product for the money. Aveda, I’m still your advocate and addict!
