Neons. Brights. No matter what you call them, the newest nail colors this summer make a bold statement. I’m just not sure what they’re saying.
Maybe because I grew up wearing the tragic neon clothing of the 80s I’m a little hesitant to try the nail colors that have flooded the market.

All the major (and minor) brands have them. Here's a look at Essie's The Neons and OPI's The Brights:

Perhaps age is a factor for me in how I view these colors. I saw a cashier (a teenage girl) at Staples who had a bright yellow color on her nails. It didn't phase me and looked kinda cute (except it was all chipping off). But if I saw a 50+ woman wearing a bright green nail polish I might do a double-take and wonder what the hell she was thinking.
Considering I'm on the brink of what some people would call "old" I shouldn't talk. I've had unusual colored nails before, but I'm cautious with the neons/brights. I like the purples and blues, but I think most of the others make my already pale skin look more anemic.
If you've got a dark complexion or a beautiful tan, you can probably wear any of the colors you like best and look great (I'm jealous). Just keep the nails short with these colors, otherwise it gets kinda creepy looking.
Tell me what you think of the trend or if you're currently wearing any of these bright colors. I'd love to know!
