Workin' the Workout Gear

When I actually get the motivation to workout, I always feel better about myself if I’m not wearing my crappiest t-shirt and cropped pants with paint on them. For me, investing in some nicer pieces is beneficial.
Going to the gym isn’t like starring in a designer fashion show. When I was a member of Gold’s Gym I found it irritating that some women seemed to be there to show off their T&A and flaunt their apparel. Whatever. I just want to feel comfortable and not self-conscious.

If I had unlimited disposable income I would probably go for some of the hottest new gear and famous label sporty wear, but I honestly don’t think there’s a need for Chanel brand hand weights. Seriously, who does? There are plenty of other things I rather drop mucho dinero on—handbags, shoes, jewelry, watches. . .

But, just for fun, check out these extravagant items straight from the pages of ELLE.

1. GRAPHITE TENNIS RACQUET, $595, FELT TENNIS BALL, $350 FOR A SET OF FOUR, BOTH, CHANEL

4. NEOPRENE AND IRON WEIGHTS, CHANEL, $760 FOR A SET OF TWO, AT SELECT CHANEL BOUTIQUES

Fortunately you don’t need all those labels (and their hefty price tags) to look good at the gym, on the tennis court or in kickboxing class. At least not in the world where most of us live!

I’ve actually had very good luck finding durable, attractive, reasonably priced workout clothing at Target stores,Activasports.com and ChampionUSA.com. These shops carry a nice size selection (Activasports.com even carries petite and tall length workout/yoga pants; very hard to find) And, their gear is made for performance, not just looks!

Oh, and a few months back I bought the cutest shimmery pink and silver Nike gym bag from ebags.com. It’s just the right size to fit in those crazy size lockers at the gym. And, I got compliments from a couple of the trainers. (I might suck at the workouts, but I rock the accessories!)

I’d love to know if you have favorite shops for sports gear or have found some great deals.

Look good and feel good ladies!
